How to Convert Video for Flash Player Watching

The videos you want to add to a web page might be saved on your computer or website. It is probably from a still camera, video camera, or a video editor such as Movie Maker or iMovie. Some file types that you can use include QuickTime (MOV and QT), video files (MP4, MPG, or MPEG), AVI, and Windows Media (WMV). However, you must have an encoded FLV file before you begin to add a video to a web page within Dreamweaver so that Dreamweaver will recognize the video file.

SWF: SWF files can be used as stand-alone movies on web pages.

FLV and F4V: FLV and F4V files are web-ready and can be embedded or linked in SWF files.

SWF file can be played directly in web browser, such as Internet Explorer. But FLV file can't be played directly, because it requires a separate SWF file which reads the video content from FLV. The SWF file that plays FLV file is called ONLINE FLASH PLAYER.
