With the rapid development of the technology, people have a higher and higher need for the life quality, they hope to enjoy their lives much more, such as when they watch TV, and they want a larger screen with higher definition. But 1080p cannot totally meet their requirement any longer.

Thanks to the creation of 4K, it brings an audiovisual entertainment to enrich people's life.

4K is also called 4K resolution in a professional way, that is, it has 4096 x 2160 pixels resolution. However, as it has the same pixel with Ultra HD, 4K is equivalent with Ultra HD technically.

4096 means the horizontal measurement, while 2160 is the vertical one. 4k brings you a stunning viewing experience for its 1.9:1 aspect ratio. Part 3: What is the difference between 1080p and 4k resolution

1. 4K has much higher resolution than 1080p

1080p has another name called Full HD, and a High Definition TV with 1080p resolution is composed of two million pixels (1920 x 1080), while a 4K TV (Ultra High Definition) has over eight million pixels (4960 x 2160). Therefore, 4K is nearly four times the size of 1080p and produces crisper image when viewed in person.

Below is an experiment picture of 4K vs 1080p from Digital Trends.

Difference between 4K and 1080p

2. 4K resource is limited while 1080p HD videos are popular

4K video has limitations in certain extent. For the moment, it's still hard to find 4K video source. You have to pay much for Netflix 4K movies, Comcast, etc. Or you can download 4K videos from YouTube for free, or convert the video to 4K. Meanwhile, media players and 4K TVs supporting 4K video are more expensive than the traditional ones and only well-equipped computers can play 4K video smoothly. With high resolution, 4K video with large file size may also cause storage problem.

However, for 1080p video, it can be found and downloaded almost anywhere and is compatible with almost all smart mobile devices, tablets and TVs. It's quite easy and convenient to play a 1080p video anywhere and anytime.

These are the main differences between 4K and 1080p and we cannot say which one is better in a word. It's really your choice to choose one to better suit your actual needs. But anyway, 4K display resolution will become the standard resolution just like the current 1080p in the near future with the improvement of society and people's needs.
